Stress is everywhere – it seems to be a permanent part of life in today’s fast-paced world.  This stress negatively impacts on our health and wellbeing.  It’s not just the aches and pains – although these can he bad enough – it’s the seemingly endless list of things to do, places to be, not enough time in the day, the boss wants more, not enough money, the kids want stuff, the other half is moaning …

Regular massage relieves stress – my clients tell me this and I see it for myself when I have my own massages every 2 weeks.

So how exactly does massage help?

It makes you feel better, calmer, lighter, more settled in yourself.  Things that were huge problems seem manageable.  Timescales are easier because somehow you just flow along and get more done, in less time, with less effort.

Then there’s the psychological & emotional effects.  When we are stressed, we are in that well-known fight-or-flight position where trivia can be enough to make us explode.

Massage helps us keep control.

stress bucket

In my work, I describe our ability to manage stress as if we have an internal stress bucket.  Gradually over time that bucket fills with the day to day stuff – kids, deadlines, idiots, traffic, too much to do, not enough me-time, partners, parents – drip, drip, drip … and sooner or later the bucket overflows.

Then we explode or crash.

Massage bails out the bucket and is something that we can all do.  A massage treatment is £43.  That’s £9.90 per week. Forego two or three lattes a week and you’re there.

It takes maybe a couple of hours – that’s just 2 hours a month.  You crash in, exhausted, depleted, fed up and stressed and you float out – feeling renewed, refreshed, restored.  The bucket is bailed out and you are ready to face the world again.
