On not setting myself up to fail …
I’ve been super busy for the last few months, seeing massage clients, working with coaching clients and setting up a series of workshop in Norwich (if you’re interested, read more about those here).
This week, we went to see a movie called Walk With Me – about a monastic community that practises the art of mindfulness with Zen Buddhist master Thich Nhat Hanh. Mindfulness, meditation, going slowly, breathing – all these are familiar to me and I fact I recommend them to clients regularly.
So, while sitting in my seat in the dark on Tuesday evening, I realised how busy I am. Like really, REALLY busy. And I’m stressed and tired too. And I move fast. And it suddenly dawned on me at I am doing too much. “Doh!” you may say and yes, I know, I get there eventually.
But the point is that I hadn’t noticed this myself and it took something outside of me to remind me.
I also realised that the main reason I am so busy is because of targets and deadlines that I am working towards. But – and here’s the real good bit – I have set them all myself.
Yep. I’m rushed off my feet and the only person responsible is me.
So – having made that discovery, I’m slowing down a bit, meditating a bit, walking more and taking some time out.
And I wondered, might this be true for you? Might you be doing too much, moving too fast, not looking after yourself well enough? This weekend, I invite you to take some time out and slow down. I also invite you to see whether there are any targets or deadlines that are causing you pressure that you can shift, especially – as in my case – those that you have set for yourself!
